Kabutihang Loob sa Kapwa Through Football
Almost 200 kids did not mind the summer heat as they warmed up for the inaugural Calidad Humana Cup held at the MML Athletic Field in Southville 7, Calauan, Laguna.
The first Calidad Humana Football Cup was organized in partnership with the Laguna Football Association and Energy Development Corporation, focusing on the latter’s advocacy “Calidad Humana,” or kabutihang loob sa kapwa.
One of the organizers of the Football Cup, former Chile Ambassador to the Philippines and EDC consultant Roberto L. Mayorga told the players that sports like football should be done with values, discipline, fair play, and camaraderie.
“We are working on these two areas; sports and values. And we are promoting the nice Filipino spirits together with sports.” said Mayorga.
There were different age-group categories in the Football Cup: Under-11, Under-13 and Under-15. Doña Jovita FC from Calamba won the U11 and U3 divisions while Mabuhay FC from Cabuyao bagged top prize for U-15.
Louis Angelo Junio of Mabuhay FC was grateful for taking part in the tournament. “Masayang-masaya po kasi nanalo kami. Salamat po at nakapaglaro kami ng football sa Southville 7.
The Laguna Football Association has also expressed its support in promoting football not only in the Southville community but in the whole of Laguna. Its secretary general, Allan Payson, echoed the importance of playing sports among children. “Ang football ay napaka-importanteng program sa Laguna,” Mr. Payson said. “Nagde-develop ang muscles natin. Hindi yung nakababad ka lang sa computer.” (Football is an important (sports) program in Laguna; it develops one’s physical fitness, compared to sitting in front of the computer).
EDC, through its Calidad Humana movement, and the Laguna Football Association , pledged to continue promoting the spirit of team work and fair play in the Southville 7 community.
