Inauguration of Tourism Information and Display Center in Guimaras

In partnership with the provincial government of Guimaras, Bantay Kalikasan supports the community-based rural tourism of Brgy. San Roque in the municipality of Nueva Valencia, the tourism capital of the province.

On January 27, 2015, 122 community members representing the six (6) people's organizations, under the umbrella organization Barangay San Roque Community-Based Rural Tourism, took part in the day-long Earth Warrior training conducted by Bantay Kalikasan to capacitate them in their role as stewards of the environment.

Knighted by Guimaras Gov. Samuel Gumarin, Nueva Valencia Mayor Emmanuel Galila, Brgy. Captain Leopoldo Geraldoy, Lopez Group Foundation representative Mr. Nono Zaragoza, and ABS- CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Chair Ms. Gina Lopez, the Guimarasnons of San Roque took to the challenge of Ms. Lopez to have the tourism information center, which has lain unfinished for three years, set up in a month's time through the spirit and power of bayanihan.

A month later, on February 27, Ms. Lopez and the Bantay Kalikasan, together with Gov. Gumarin, Mayor Galila and the Brgy. San Roque community, inaugurated what is now the Tourism Information and Display Center. A fishing boat built by the fisherfolk association, part of the infrastructure support to the BSRCBRT, was likewise blessed during the event.
