Bantay Bata 163 and Cargill Philippines Inc. launch Feeding Program in Southville 7
ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation’s child welfare program, Bantay Bata 163 in partnership with Cargill Philippines Inc. recently launched its Community Feeding Program in Southville 7, Sto. Tomas, Calauan, Laguna. This partnership aims to reduce children’s hunger and decrease malnutrition.
This will benefit 120 residents from Southville 7, a relocation site in Calauan, Laguna. For 60 days, children will be provided nutritious food and will be continuously monitored with the help of Municipal Health Office and Office of the Mayor of Laguna.
(The municipal office received a letter declaring Calauan with the highest rate of malnutrition in the province of Laguna for the last two years. We immediately called for a meeting to discuss the needed actions to take to address this problem of malnutrition.)
Malnutrition is a priority concern of most families that’s why Bantay Kalusugan, a supplemental feeding project of Bantay Bata 163, was designed to directly address the malnutrition amongst children. It also extends towards advocating on nutrition, children’s rights, proper parenting skills, community mobilization and network – building.
“Ang feeding program ay isang napakahalagang programa para sa kabataan lalo na sa ganitong lugar na mga relocations, alam naman natin na hirap ang mga pamilya rito to provide for their own needs at sa pagkain ng bata. Malimit ay maraming malnourished sa mga ganitong lugar so isang napakalaking bagay at tulong ang magagawa ng feeding program ng Bantay Bata at mga NGOs na tumutulong,” said Buenafrido Berris, Mayor of Calauan, Laguna. (Feeding program is one of the most important programs for the youth especially in relocation areas. Families that live here are having difficulty in providing their own needs especially food for their children. There are plenty of malnourished kids in this place. Bantay Bata 163 and other non-government organization’s effort is a big help in fighting malnutrition.)
Malnutrition is one of the common yet alarming problems of the society. With your help, Bantay Bata 163 will continue its mission to create a better world for children through Bantay Kalusugan to mitigate malnutrition amongst children.
