“Hindi na po kami magtatapon ng basura sa kanal at ilog, kasi kapag umulan, babaha.” From now on, we will not throw our garbage to the drainage and river because our area is prone to flooding. – Princess Sophia Puclawan

This was the realization that dawned on grade school student Princess Sophia Puclawan, one of 66 kids from  8 HOA Partners along Palay Creek, Brgy. Tumana in Marikina who was a beneficiary of the recent  feeding, gifting, and clean-up project, which was a tie up between PascualLab and ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation’s (ALKFI) Bantay Kalikasan’s (BK) Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig (KBPIP).

Puclawan, who lives along the Palay Creek which flows out into the Marikina River, experiences severe flooding along with her family during the rainy seasons. She admits that she used to throw garbage anywhere. But when Bantay Kalikasan, together with PascualLab came, she started valuing the importance of proper waste disposal especially because it took others to make her realize this through their clean-up activity.

The clean-up, gifting and feeding program is part of PascualLab’s CSR program SEED or Sowing to Empower, Educate and Develop. It is a program where volunteers from the innovation-driven company chooses at least one beneficiary for which to share their blessings under the sub-project, “Adopt-A-Star”.

For 2018, PascualLab chose ALKFI’s BK KBPIP because in just one activity, it could achieve a three-pronged CSR objective: to provide nourishment and joy to the children of the community through feeding and gifting, to educate the residents about how to keep their environment clean and healthy, and to give their employees opportunities to contribute to society and the betterment of communities.

“Everybody must do their part. We came here to help the residents clean up, but because we’re not here every dayI hope they fulfill their responsibilities to the community and to the environment, and educate their children to do the same,” said Mia PascualCenzon HROD, Design Services, and Corporate Communications Director for Pascual Laboratories, Inc. (PascualLab).

The recent Employee Engagement Activity (EEA) of PascualLab with Bantay Kalikasan was mostly part of the company’s CSR environmental program. Aside from the clean-up activity, the employees spent the morning playing fun games with children. They also helped distribute prizes. Children and earth warriors also received food packs.

Bantay Kalikasan and PascualLab both look forward  to this activity being the start of a more sustainable road towards a greener environment and healthier communities.
